Ice Cave Elopement / Brittany & Mike
A dream elopement at the Ice Caves!
Entering the wonders!
Although ice caves in Iceland can be visited year-round, my best experiences have been from November through approximately March. Each cave is unique, fleeting, and irreplaceable—existing only for a brief moment in eternity. A cave you visited just a month ago will never be the same again, and a cave that existed a year ago melted away forever. The good news is that every year dozens of new caves are discovered, and some of these are quite easily accessible.
Brittany and Mike reached out to me because their dream was to exchange vows in an Icelandic ice cave. On the morning we set out, it was extremely cold and windy. Although no two years are alike, the combination of cold and wind can make this journey particularly challenging. No one knows exactly what's ahead or what the next cave will look like, but we truly had no idea that this time we were about to discover something extraordinary—a heart-shaped ice cave.
We instinctively chose the spot for exchanging vows and rings without realizing that from above it looked exactly like a heart. To reach this magical place, we had to hike uphill on the glacier for half an hour, navigate crevasses, and squeeze through several narrow passages until finally arriving at our destination. We were all tired but incredibly happy and amazed by the beauty of the glacier, the heart-shaped cave, and the stunning blue ice formations.
To top it all off, as we were leaving, we were greeted by a spectacular 360-degree halo surrounding us in sunshine—a day truly unforgettable.

Best Time to Visit:
The ideal period to explore the ice caves is during the winter months, from November to March. This is when the temperatures are low enough to ensure the stability and safety of the caves. But, I have been there also in the summer time and in the past few years they have been available during the summer.
Getting There:
Accessing these caves often involves a journey through Iceland's rugged terrain. Depending on the cave, we might need to embark on a glacier hike, a jeep tour, or even a helicopter ride. The journey itself is an integral part of the adventure, offering breathtaking views of Iceland's landscapes. Really unique opportunity to take some images for a lifetime.
What You'll Need:
Safety is paramount. It's essential to have the right gear, including crampons, helmets, and appropriate cold-weather clothing. Most importantly, exploring with a knowledgeable guide is non-negotiable. The caves can be dangerous, and a guide ensures not only your safety but also a richer understanding of the caves' geological significance.
